From the Principal - Mr Jim Dale We have an education system in New Zealand that stands up with the best in the world. When done well, it develops the whole person: academic, sporting, cultural and spiritual aspects. The additional advantage that a Sacred Heart College education brings is our Catholic, Marist and Champagnat Special Character, which has its foundations in the school established in France in 1818 by St Marcellin Champagnat. As a priest, Father Champagnat decided he must do something about the plight of poor children who, without education, could not come to know God. He dedicated the rest of his life to a crusade of rescue, going to any lengths to try to improve their situation and open them to the unconditional love of God. Marcellin wanted to be sure there was longevity in what he did, and his values live on today in Marist schools, and will live well beyond us:
At Sacred Heart College, we are inclined to be overly modest about our achievements. We celebrate privately, and encourage humility. Yet there is a guiding light, our Marist torch, that burns brightly in our school community, and unites us all in a quest for excellence.
