Old Boys

Sacred Heart College is recognised as one of New Zealand’s leading Catholic boys' schools. Its origins date back to the 1880s in Central Auckland. In 1903 the Marist Brothers took over an existing school and built in Richmond Road, Ponsonby. They continued there until 1955 when the College was relocated to Glen Innes.

The College has a rich tradition of students' success and achievement. Old Boys have achieved and continue to achieve many distinctions in Church life, academia, the arts, sport and business. Representatives on our Arts Honours Board include musicians Tim and Neil Finn, Dave Dobbyn and Mike Chunn. We are equally proud of our national icons in the sporting field, including former All Black captain Sean Fitzpatrick.

The College is recognised for its strong Catholic Marist Special Character. The spirit and values of St Marcellin Champagnat have been carried on through the Marist Brothers, who still have a strong presence in the College. The emphasis on the family is very much part of the Marist charism and one of the hallmarks of the College is the strong feeling of community that exists between past and present students, their families, the Marist Brothers and present and past staff.
