Day Students - Enrolment Scheme

Enrolment Scheme

MAXIMUM ROLL
The College’s roll will be managed within the maximum roll prescribed in the College’s integration. The number of places available for non-preference students will be governed by the maximum number allowable under the College’s integration agreement.

ENROLMENT PROCEDURES
The Board of Trustees of this College has adopted an enrolment policy and formulated the procedures which follow for the enrolment of new students. There is no restriction on who may apply for entry provided they fall within the educational cohort served by the College – boys only, Years 7 to 15. Normal intake is at Year 7 and Year 9. The College currently receives more applications than there are places available. Consistent with the Special Character of the College, preference is given to families with an established connection with the Catholic Church. Preference of enrolment is established by the designated agent of the proprietor in accordance with the revised guidelines approved by the Catholic Bishops of New Zealand in 2003.

PRE-ENROLMENT
Each year applications will be sought by a date which will be published in a daily or community newspaper, the Parish and Catholic school newsletters circulating in the areas served by the school. All applications will be acknowledged and processed in terms of the priority order contained in the scheme. Applicants will be advised of the outcome of their application as soon as possible after the closing date.

Notes:
If the total number of applications is greater than the number of places available after the ballot has been held, unsuccessful applicants will have their names recorded on a waiting list, within their relevant priority category. Students on the waiting list may be offered places at a later date if places become available. The waiting list will remain current until the beginning of the following school year.

Applicants seeking priority status on the basis of enrolment at a particular primary school may be required to provide proof of enrolment in that school.

Applicants seeking priority status on the basis of a sibling relationship may be required to provide proof of a sibling relationship.

Applicants seeking priority status on the basis of location near the College may be required to provide proof of their residence at their address.

The board will make provision for likely population movements in the general area served by the school that occur during the school year or after the end of the pre-enrolment period.

The number of places available for non-preference students will be governed by the maximum number allowable under the school's Integration Agreement.

Places at other levels: The selection process described above for Students at Year 9 will operate also at Year 8 and from Years 10 to 14, depending on the number of places deemed by the Board to be available at those levels. However, in any year, very few places are likely to be available for Day Boys at those levels.

Hostel: The Proprietor as Sacred Heart College Hostel Ltd operates a Hostel for boys. Enrolments are taken only for Years 9 to 13 only (not Years 7 & 8). The Principal, as CEO of Sacred Heart College Ltd, will enrol all preference applications first, and then non-preference - if there are places remaining at the relevant year level in the school after all preference applicants have been enrolled at that year level.
