Honours for 2009 scholars More than 150
students were recognised at the Scholars’ Assembly for their successes in the
2009 examinations.
The assembly, held in March, celebrates achievement at the highest levels in NCEA Levels 1, 2 and 3, and Scholarship. Dr Duncan McGILLIVRAY (Dux 94), a leading international researcher in the field of Physical Chemistry, presented the awards (read his story in Confortare April 2010). It was one of the most successful years academically for the College, and Principal Mr Jim Dale says he is “absolutely delighted” with the results. SHC students achieved at up to 30% above national averages for boys in co-ed schools, and 20-25% above boys in boys’ schools. Level 1
- 91% Achieved, compared with 63.1% (national),
and 67.4% (boys’ schools).
- 29.6%
Achieved with Merit, compared with 17.2% (national) and 18.7% (boys’ schools).
- 12.2%
Achieved with Excellence, compared with 5% (national) and 4.6% (boys’ schools).
Level 2
- 95% Achieved, compared with 65% (national) and 66.3% (boys’ schools).
- 25.6% Achieved with Merit, compared with 12.7% (national) and 12.1% (boys’
schools).
- 85% Achieved with Excellence, compared with 3.7% (national) and 3.1% (boys’
schools).
Level 3
- 80.9% Achieved, compared with 51.5% (national) and 51.2% (boys’ schools).
- 18.4% Achieved with Merit, compared with 11.1% (national) and 10% (boys’
schools)
.- 5.7% Achieved with Excellence, compared with 2.7% (national) and 2.8% (boys’
schools).
Scholarship (Level
4)
There were
13 scholarships gained by 10 students across 10 subjects. This represents an
increase on 2008 results in both the number of students achieving scholarships,
and the range of subjects covered. Congratulations to:
