Careers Department

Students need strategies that will equip them to plan and manage their learning and career pathways at and beyond school. The workforce demands lifelong learning and the capacity to manage change. 

The Careers Department provides a range of opportunities and experiences that encourage students to make informed choices about their future education, training and employment and become resilient career managers. Services include:

• Career Education from Year 7 – Year 13.
• Individual or group Careers Counselling. Parents are welcome to attend.

Students can also experience opportunities outside of school such as:

• STAR courses – partnerships with polytechnics where students attend one day a week and complete courses such as –Automotive Engineering, Panelbeating, Refinishing, Fabrication Engineering, Cafe Service, Catering for the Cafe Industry, Baking and Pastry, Flight Attending, CAD, Solid Works, Carpentry, PC Engineering etc.
• Work exploration/ shadowing.
• Open days at Tertiary Institutes.
• KATTI programmes for Maori students.
• So’o and Fono days for Pasifika students.
• Annual Careers Evening.
• Tertiary Scholarships
• CV writing
• Interview skills.

Dreamcatcher
DreamCatcher is a web-based career management programme that students and parents can access anytime. From Year 10 level, students are taught how to use the programme and then are expected to access it regularly. It has links to all tertiary and industry training providers and enables students to set goals and manage their career plans.
