The ArtsGallery | News | Calendar | Debating | MusicArtCreative endeavour led by the Art Department is a rich and meaningful dimension in College life. Inspirational facilities, and a supportive teaching team, enable students to develop their skill and love of drawing, painting and photography.Beyond the curriculum, students can indulge their artistic talents in a variety of ways. The Annual Art Auction in September is a fantastic opportunity for students to show and sell their art to a wider audience. Around the school, student art beautifies the Chapel, the Administration Block, and takes pride of place in the Principal's office. Students also help to create the artistic backdrops for school productions. Cultural GroupsThere are three cultural groups:• Kapahaka. • Tongan. • Samoan. All three cultural groups annually compete in the Auckland Secondary Schools Polynesian Cultural Festival, and consistently achieve awards at this popular event. DebatingFor students keen on the art of debating, there is a high level of participation and performance at Sacred Heart College. Each year between seven and 10 teams enter in the Eastern Zone Competition.
MusicOur Music Department offers a wide variety of musical opportunity to foster boys' talents:
Speech CompetitionsStudents are encouraged to get involved in Speech Competitions as a way to develop thinking and communication skills. Within the school, Speech Competitions take place in August for individual year groups. Students also have the opportunity to participate in external competitions, including the Pompallier Shield (contested by 12 Catholic Schools), the Eastern Zone Competition, and Auckland-wide events. SHC is the 2009 holder of the Pompallier Shield.
