About Us

Sacred Heart has a rich musical tradition. We are extremely proud of Old Boys who have become leaders in New Zealand music. In jazz, Bernie ALLAN, in classical Paul HARROP and Dr Joseph HARROP, and in rock,  brothers - Neil and Tim FINNMike and Geoff CHUNN, IAN and RICKY MORRIS - Dave DOBBYN, and Peter URLICH. We actively encourage all kinds of musical expression and provide a wide range of opportunities in classical and modern genres.

Events

The opportunities include an annual school production, performances at school occasions, involvement in external competitions including the KBB Music Festival, and tours to overseas events.

Tuition

The Music Department also provides outstanding instrumental and vocal tuition to our students via the Itinerant Music Tutors Programme. All our tutors are outstanding musicians in their own right, including Damian Hauwai, a member of reggae band, Sweet and Irie, and Andrew Uren, who regularly performs on bass clarinet in the NZSO.
