RowingRowing at Sacred Heart College is one of the school’s premier sports, with more than 60 boys participating and major successes being achieved at North Island and national regattas. At the 2010 Maadi Cup in Twizel, the Sacred Heart 1st 8 made the A final for the first time in 56 years.
SHC rowing first appeared on the national scene in 1947 when it was one of four crews competing at the inaugural Maadi Cup held on the Wanganui River (see Rowing Archives for more history). Sacred Heart has state-of-the-art boats and a dedicated coaching team, which has enabled the College to become more competitive. Sacred Heart College Rowing is based at the Auckland Rowing Club with boys undertaking a rigorous training programme under the guidance of coaches Br Terence, Chris Klaassen, Kirsty Dunhill, Mat Jensen and Old Boys who have previously rowed and competed for the College.
