Matariki Celebration 2026
The Kapa Haka group would like to thank all of our guests who attended and supported our evening on Saturday. The emails and feedback have been very positive. At times the occasion was formal, sad, respectful, celebrating and fun. To the many who donated items, supported the fundraisers for our Kapa Haka group that depart for Hawaii, kia ora.
Matariki is the Māori name for the cluster of stars, that rises in midwinter, and for many Māori, heralds the start of the new year.
The return of the cluster is commemorated by Te Rā Aro ki Matariki. Early in the morning, just before dawn, is the optimum time to view the Matariki cluster. Mānawatia a Matariki
