Development Foundation

The Sacred Heart College Development Foundation Trust was established in 1994 and incorporated under the Charitable Trusts Act 1957. In 2008, the Trust was registered as a charitable entity under the Charities Act 2005. Working closely with the Board of Trustees, the Proprietors Board, Sacred Heart Old Boys Association and other key stakeholders, the Trust leads a range of fundraising initiatives and capital projects for the growth of the College.

To nurture our young Marist men to become future leaders, Sacred Heart College needs to remain financially strong. The work of the Trust allows this to happen and plays a key role in promoting the Marist mission, encouraging a philanthropic culture within the wider school community and driving the College’s strategic vision to remain a leading Catholic institution in New Zealand.

Objectives of the Trust
  • Provide financial security for the future of the College and ensure the Marist mission lives on
  • Encourage a positive culture of giving and philanthropy in the wider Sacred Heart community.
  • Maintain positive relationships with key donors and sponsors as lifelong supporters of the College, and ensure they are properly recognised for their generosity
  • Promote the future advancement of the College through generational philanthropy

Sacred Heart College is dedicated to providing every student with a nurturing learning environment rich in Marist values and culture. Every gift is an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of students, teachers and Marist Brothers. There are many ways you can support the College to ensure this continues to happen.

Annual Giving Programme

Each year, the Sacred Heart community has the opportunity to show their support through our Annual Giving Programme. With the generosity of parents, grandparents, Old Boys, staff and friends, our young Marist men continue to thrive in academic, cultural and sporting achievements.

Every gift, regardless of the amount, gives us the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our students, teachers and Marist Brothers. All donations are receipted and are tax deductible up to 100% of your annual income.

This year our focus is on the Endowment Fund and all donations received this year through the Annual Giving Programme will be dedicated towards this.

Endowment Fund

The Endowment Fund is our commitment to support Sacred Heart College’s continued excellence and leadership in education. It is an investment in the future of our young Marist men.

The Development Foundation is focussed on raising $10 million to ensure Sacred Heart College maintains its position as the leading Catholic boys’ College in New Zealand. This is a unique opportunity to be involved in safeguarding and shaping the future of the College.

Investment in the Endowment Campaign will generate annual incomes for:

  • Teaching and learning - to attract and retain inspirational teachers, encourage excellence in teaching and invest in innovative programmes that enhance educational growth and achievement. The fund will allow increased pastoral care and educational support for all students, as well as promote student leadership, mentoring and resilience, and raise academic standards across all levels.
  • Scholarships - to provide financial assistance for talented students who demonstrate leadership qualities but may not have the means to attend the College due to family circumstances. The Scholarship Fund will encourage these students to strive for excellence and reach their full potential during their education, making a significant difference to the lives of Sacred Heart families, one boy at a time.
  • Marist Brothers - to support the welfare of the Brothers at the College, and to encourage and ensure that the Marist Brothers continue to be involved in daily life at Sacred Heart.

The Development Foundation has currently raised $2 million, with an end goal of raising $10 million.

Bequests

A bequest is a lasting legacy that transcends time and benefits future generations. It is a statement in your Will, outlining the distribution of assets or funds to Sacred Heart College.

Bequests can be in the form of cash, shares, real estate or personal property such as art or antiques, and distributions are usually made when family and dependents have been provided for. Unrestricted bequests will usually be applied to the area of greatest need at the time, such as an evolving important project. Alternatively, your bequest may be applied to a specific area of your choice, such as academic scholarships, teacher support, Marist Brothers welfare or future capital projects.

If you would like to find out more about Bequest, please contact Lauren Alberino.

Completed projects

With the generous support from key stakeholders, the Development Foundation has completed multiple projects for the College and the wider community.

Most recently these include:

  • School of Imagination - officially opened in 2017, the centre is home to a Performing Arts theatre, recording studio, music practice rooms, teaching spaces and a knowledge centre.
  • Auditorium and Br Sean Hanaray Foyer - a 1,500 seat auditorium allowing the whole school and wider community to come together for assemblies, performances and prizegivings. The auditorium is connected to the School of Imagination through the Br Sean Hanaray Foyer – an expansive and bright space that serves as a functional venue for events.

Other projects include the Intermediate Block in 2009 and extension in 2010, Administration Block and Centenary Square in 2003, the Aquatic Centre in 1997, Marist Brothers Gymnasium in 1996 and the Chapel rebuild and Old Boys Lounge in 1993.
